Girls soccer knocked out by Granada Hills in triple overtime thriller
Pali girls soccer was knocked out of the CIF Los Angeles City Section semifinals, suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 triple-overtime loss to visiting Granada Hills on Tuesday Feb. 28.
Pali sophomore forward Daniela Flores opened up the scoring with a calm left-footed finish in the first half.
It looked as if the Dolphins would hold on and advance to the final, but a stunning Granada Hills goal directly from a corner in the 78th minute sent the game to extra time.
Neither team was able to score in the two 10-minute overtime periods, so they headed into sudden death.
One team eventually had to score. It was Granada Hills. A looping shot over the goalkeeper sent the away bench into cheers.
Granada will now take on El Camino Real in the final at 4 p.m. at Valley College on Saturday Mar. 4.
