The Pali Tideline journalism production class has posted a 15-minute video tribute to Shane Thomas, a Pali senior who died last August. He was 17. Production for this mini documentary began in October and has been months in the making, with Thomas’ family generously participating in the process. The film, created by Pali junior Jonathan Gelfond, features friends, soccer teammates, and coaches speaking about Thomas’ determination, his upbeat attitude, and the profound influence he had on the lives of those who knew him. On Aug. 15, 2020, Thomas collapsed and died after soccer practice with his club team. The cause of death has been linked to undiagnosed heart abnormalities. Shane was a Max Prep Sports National Player of the Week, First Team All City Player, and held the scoring record at Pali for 18 goals in a season. This mini-documentary highlights the effect Shane had on his friends, teammates, and coaches, and is illustrative of the impact he had at Pali.
