Pali junior Anna Song recently announced on Instagram that she plans to attend Stanford University on a golf scholarship in the fall of 2025.
She explained that her “initial reaction was that [her] mind went blank… it took a week for everything to sink in.”
Despite the fact that Song has verbally committed to Stanford, she isn’t able to sign a binding letter of intent until her senior year.
“It’s honestly relieving that I don’t have to worry about offers from college and can just focus on playing,” Song added.
Song began her golf journey when she was seven years old, playing for a total of nine years and counting. Throughout her entire career, Song remained eager to improve and was motivated by the possibility of playing for her dream school.
Although Song is a determined athlete, she still manages to complete her coursework as a junior at Pali.
“Many say this is the most important year of high school,” Song explained, adding that she has persevered by “finding a balance between focusing on golf, focusing on school and having a social life.”
After school, she goes straight to the golf course. She practices by herself from 4-7 p.m., and from 7-8 p.m. she trains with her coaches. She returns home at 8:30 p.m., does her homework, eats dinner around 11:30 p.m., and sleeps afterward.
Even though Song said has diligently followed an extensive training routine, she believes her hard work paid off in the end.
Since Song regularly competes in out-of-state tournaments in locations such as Spain, Chicago and South Carolina, she often misses school, causing difficulties with schoolwork. Despite this, Song said she has maintained a positive attitude.
“It was all worth it, to be able to play and do what I love,” she said.
Song said she is grateful to have received offers from different schools but ultimately verbally committed to her top choice, Stanford.
She said, “I got into my dream school, what more could I ask for?”
