Students participate in hair drive to benefit cancer patients

Pali Associated Student Body (ASB) Leadership hosted a hair drive on Nov. 7. Approximately 50 students participated in the event, which asked students to donate their hair so wigs could be made for cancer patients.

Students could also shave their heads to demonstrate support for cancer patients and to raise awareness on the issue. Students participating in the event earned as many as five hours of community service.

The drive was held in Mercer Hall, where students from Paul Mitchell Training School, a beauty school in Sherman Oaks, donated their services. Students had the choice of hair style, and could make an appointment, but walk-ins were generally treated to five-to-10 minute waits.

Senior representative Jessica Breitman was in charge of this year’s hair drive. Breitman said that she’d like to see if the school can sponsor another hair drive next semester. For the time being, it’s just an annual event.
