Pali’s Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted a fundraiser for the Class of 2028 in collaboration with Sunset Smash, a smash-burger food truck company.
ASB representative and junior Hudson Ramberg shared how the fundraiser originated.
“We had an idea of reaching out to Sunset Smash because they were a big pillar in the Palisades, at least for food,” Ramberg said. “We decided, ‘let’s get a little taste of home on campus.’”
Senior and ASB Treasurer Nathan Hall explained that the collaboration with the food truck raised money for Pali’s sophomore class fund.
“[The Sunset Smash Fundraiser] was specifically done by the sophomore class [ASB representatives],” Hall said. “As seniors, when we do a fundraiser it goes towards our prom, grad night and it goes towards our big events. So sophomores, whenever we host a smaller event [we either use the funds], or save it up all the way till their senior year for their prom.”
Hall shared that the Sunset Smash fundraiser, and similar efforts, are crucial for school spirit.
“I think it has a big impact personally because it’s the spirit of our entire school. What we do, without it you wouldn’t have any of these big events that kids look forward to,” Hall said.
Junior Olivia Clark said that she enjoys going to school fundraisers, like the one involving Sunset Smash.
“I like going to fundraisers that the school has, and it’s always fun when the fundraisers are actually appealing to students,” Clark said. “I get to support my school and my student body and at the same time, and also get some good food.”
Junior ASB representative Hudson Mirzadeh spoke about the challenges that the leadership class faced during the event.
“The truck showed up a little bit early, and then we got the list of pre-order in late. So nothing is pre-made. Everything is made on the spot which makes it a little bit slower. This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this,” Mirzadeh said.
Mirzadeh explained that despite any challenges ASB encountered, the Sunset Smash event was able to foster more school spirit on campus.
He concluded “Having delicious food just makes everything more rewarding.”
