The Pali girl’s varsity golf team made it to the Southern California Girls High School Championship on Nov. 13, placing eighth overall and winning the LA City Section for the fifth consecutive year.
The golf team no longer has a simulation room to practice in while at the Pali South Campus like they did at the original Palisades campus, but they have been going to the Rancho Park Golf Course instead.
Varsity captain Skylar Monahan said that the team’s accomplishments can be accredited to “the teamwork and all the hard work we put in practicing as a team.”
Sophomore varsity golfer Abigail Yoda reflected on the regional tournament and how the team was able to succeed.
“The competition really tested our focus and patience,” she said. “Every hole demanded smart decisions, and I’m proud of how we stayed composed and trusted the preparation we’ve put in all season.”
Head coach Dave Suarez shared that one of the team’s keys to success was the effort they demonstrated in the offseason.
“The hard work that all the players put in during the offseason and throughout the year leads to the girls improving every year and getting better,” he said. “And it keeps the elite stats in the city.”
According to Yoda, the team stayed motivated to perform well due to their performance being a reflection of Pali as a whole. Losing the school’s main campus was an especially influential factor for many players on the team.
Yoda said, “It was scary to think about playing for a school that’s so different from what it used to be, and with so many recent changes, but I think it also motivated me to push myself and show what our school can still accomplish.”
