Every student down at Pali liked holiday celebrations a lot…
But the Grinch, who lived in the basement of Sears, did NOT!
The Grinch hated holiday celebrations! The whole holiday season!
Now, please don’t ask why. No one feels secure in saying the reason.
It could be her head was afraid of lawsuits.
It could be, perhaps, that her stomach was sick of holiday-themed Kahoots.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that the Sears building is two sizes too small.
Whatever the reason, FBI wiretaps or procrastination of so, so many Human Geography maps,
She stood in the Sears basement at Winter’s start, hating the holidays, hating them a lot.
“And they’re hanging their APUSH ornaments!” she snarled with a sneer.
“Tomorrow is the AP Exam!” said one teacher. “It’s practically here!”
Then the Grinch growled, “No more holiday cheer!”
The Grinch did not dress as Santa. She simply called a staff-meeting.
The next morning, students and staff were seen grieving.
Cindy Loo cried: “My Whiskey Rebellion ornament, thrown in the trash!”
“Celebrating some holidays leaves out others,” said the Grinch. “Festivities lead to backlash!”
The Christmas trees back with the willows, the menorahs out of their windows,
only the Kwanzaa festivities were spared, the Grinch refused to interfere there.
“The lawsuits, the lawsuits, the lawsuits come hither!” cried the Grinch.
An English teacher screamed, “Art thou allegations that of a Nigerian Prince?”
On the last day of school, the Grinch paused, listening for holiday conversation.
Hoping to hand out a Christmas citation.
And all through Sears’ halls and all through its classrooms.
There was not a whisper of the holidays, as though students were back on their Zooms.
There was no whisper of joy, of fun, no ideation.
And it was the Grinch’s creation.
And the students’ hearts shrunk, and the teachers with them.
And the people of Pali were finally beaten.
Cindy Loo asked, “Why did I stay here if not for shared fun, for holiday cheer?”
She cried, “I wish I never came to Sears!”
The Grinch sat just outside of her office in a secluded, staff-only Sears soundproofed box.
Happy with what she gained. Forgetting what everyone lost.
Though suits disappeared and Pali moved.
The melting pot of the school had melted through.
